Hanover High School's girls basketball team defeated Lebanon High School 42-32 in the season opener with Hanover High School guard Sydney McLaughlin playing a stellar game, scoring 32 points, 15 of which came from three-point range.

Lebanon has a new head coach, Jeff Sowa, this season and the team has had a difficult time adjusting to the new tactics. Lebanon's defense was weak against McLaughlin's strong play and could only watch as she hit three-pointer after three-pointer.

McLaughlin is the daughter of Dartmouth men's basketball head coach David McLaughlin, who has committed to attend Stonehill College next year.

McLaughlin's performance got Hanover off to a good start, but Coach O'Rourke realized that if McLaughlin was being defended, the team would need other players to step up and score.

Lebanon showed a lot of fight in this game, and Coach Sowa hopes that his team will pick up the pace, cut down on turnovers, and improve their shooting percentage in the upcoming games.
