The University of Houston defense was once again the talk of the town, limiting Rice to season-low scoring and hitting percentages. Rice head coach Scott Pera marveled at Houston's defensive prowess." He said, "They were just fantastic. He said, "They were in tune and played hard. It's impressive and it's fun. When you know you have to play them, watching the tape can be intimidating.

Cal head coach Kelvin Sampson credits his team's defensive success to their hard work and dedication." He said, "We're getting better and better." Our accountability, our execution. Being a good defensive team is not easy. It really isn't easy. Not all defensive teams are the same. They're all different.

Cal guards L.J. Cryer and Emanuel Sharp led the Cougar offense with 15 and 12 points, respectively. Cryer continued his hot streak, hitting five 3-pointers for the third straight game. The Baylor transfer is averaging 20.6 points per game during that stretch.

The depth of the Cougars' roster was also a key factor in their win. They were able to substitute players onto the court without compromising their defensive intensity. This allowed them to maintain control of the game throughout the second half.

The Houston Cougars are currently 9-0 and are the number one ranked defense in the nation. The Cougars look to be on their way to another successful season, thanks in large part to their suffocating defense.
